Language and usage asks for the form that fits the sentence. A translation keeps the meaning and does not add a detail.
The idea
The form that fits is the mark: the right word, the right ending, or the right order. Practise that form inside a sentence in your language, not as a list of names with no sentence. If the question gives a sentence and asks you to complete it, the word you add has to agree with the words already there. A correct word in the wrong place is still wrong. Stay in the variety you were entered for. Asante Twi and Akuapem Twi are not the same paper. Fante is not Twi. Ga is not Dangme.
Translation is its own part of the essay paper. You move a sentence from English into your language, or the other way, when the question asks. Keep who did the action. Do not drop a time or a place that was in the sentence. Do not add a reason the sentence did not give. A beautiful sentence that changes the meaning is a wrong translation. Language and usage and translation are both compulsory in the published scheme. A strong story does not fill either blank.
The Ghanaian Language tips guide treats translation as its own part, beside language and usage. BECE Ghanaian Language tips
What earns the marks
One form, one mark. The word that was already in the sentence is not the answer you were asked to supply. A translation is marked for meaning, not for length. Adding a detail you like, or dropping a person, a time or a place, loses the point. Mixing two varieties in one sentence is a different error from a wrong ending. Name the task you were given and answer that task.

No. Language and usage asks for the form that fits a sentence. Translation moves a sentence between English and your language and keeps the meaning. Both are compulsory in the published scheme. A strong composition does not fill either one.
