A study plan

How to pass the BECE

A practical way to revise for the BECE: a timeline, past questions, written answers, and exam day. Kevin and Anna coach you on GLearn.

This is a study plan, not a promise of a grade. GLearn does not set the BECE, does not publish a pass rate, and does not know your centre. The steps below are what you can do before the morning of the paper.

Set the timeline from the official timetable

Open the BECE timetable when WAEC publishes it. Before that file is out, revise the subjects you are entered for. When the dates are out, spend more of the week on the paper that comes first. GLearn does not set the dates. If a date here and the official file disagree, follow the file.

Practise past questions by subject

Work one subject at a time. Answer the question before you read the explanation. The past questions pages need no account. On GLearn, Kevin marks the answer and explains why, and your progress is saved once you join.

Have written answers marked

A written paper is marked point by point. Write the answer in full, then see which point earned a mark and which point was missing. On GLearn, Kevin marks written answers and shows what a complete answer still needs.

Add the aggregate yourself

WAEC grades each subject from 1 to 9. Grade 1 is the highest. For placement, the aggregate adds English Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, then the two best grades from your other subjects. A lower total is better. The calculator on GLearn adds those grades. It does not place you in a school.

Manage exam day

Be at the centre before the start time on the official timetable. The school, or the admission notice for a private candidate, tells you where the centre is. Follow the invigilator. Do not depend on a phone inside the hall. After the exam, WAEC releases the result and CSSPS places candidates. Those are separate steps. GLearn does not check a result and does not change a placement.

Practise with Kevin and Anna

Kevin is the coach on BECE practice. Anna is the coach on WASSCE practice. Both explain the answer and stay with you while you revise. You can try questions with no account, then join when you want the record kept.

BECE revision questions

How do I pass the BECE?+

Revise the subjects you are entered for, practise past questions, and have written answers marked before exam day. Use the official timetable to order the last weeks. Kevin explains every answer on GLearn. There is no pass rate on this page, because GLearn does not publish one.

When should I start revising?+

Start while you are still in class, not the week the timetable appears. GLearn does not set a required number of weeks. When WAEC publishes the timetable, give the earliest paper more of your time.

Will the same past questions come again?+

Nobody can promise that a question will return. Practising them trains the topics and the way the paper asks. That is what revision is for.

What happens after the BECE?+

WAEC releases the result. CSSPS places candidates into a school and a programme. The guide to choosing an SHS programme explains the programmes before you fill the form. GLearn does not check a result and does not change a placement.
