Students look up the BECE syllabus to see what to revise. This page lists the topics GLearn already practises for each BECE subject on the site. Open a subject for past questions, or open a topic for a short explanation, practice questions and a mark scheme. GLearn does not publish the official syllabus and does not quote one. WAEC sets the examination.
Science
Photosynthesis
A leaf makes glucose using light, chlorophyll, carbon dioxide and water, and it gives off oxygen.
The digestive system
Digestion breaks large food molecules into smaller ones the blood can absorb.
Reproduction in humans
Human reproduction passes life to the next generation. Fertilisation joins a sperm and an egg.
Acids, bases and salts
Acids and bases are chemical opposites. When they react, they form a salt and water.
Electricity
An electric current is a flow of charge. A complete circuit gives that charge a closed path.
Mathematics
Linear equations
A linear equation has the unknown to the power one. You isolate it by doing the same operation to both sides.
Percentages
A percentage is a fraction with denominator 100. Percent means out of 100.
Angles
Angles on a straight line add to 180 degrees. Angles in a triangle add to 180 degrees. Parallel lines make equal angles in matching positions.
Statistics
Mean, median and mode are three different averages. Each one answers a different question about a list of numbers.
Area and volume
Area measures a surface. Volume measures the space inside a solid. The units are different, and the formulae must match the shape.
Social Studies
The environment
The environment is the surroundings we live in. What people do to land, water and air comes back to the community.
Governance
Governance is how a country is ruled. In a democracy the people choose who holds power, and the law limits that power.
Independence of Ghana
Ghana became independent from British colonial rule on 6 March 1957. The country became a republic on 1 July 1960.
Population
Population is the number of people in a place. It changes by births, deaths and migration.
The family
The family is the first group a child belongs to. It is where socialisation begins.
ICT
Hardware and software
Hardware is the physical parts of a computer. Software is the set of instructions that tells those parts what to do.
The internet
The internet is a worldwide network of computers. A browser is the program you use to open pages on it.
Word processing
A word processor is application software for creating and editing text. It is how letters, essays and reports are prepared on a computer.
Spreadsheets
A spreadsheet stores values in cells and calculates from them. Change one number and every formula that uses it updates.
Computer safety
A computer is safe when the machine, the data and the person using it are protected.

Essay writing
A BECE essay is marked on what you say, how you organise it, and how clearly and correctly you write.
Comprehension
Comprehension asks you to show that you understood a passage. Answers come from the passage, in your own words where the question asks for them.
Lexis and structure
Lexis is word choice. Structure is how the sentence is built. The objective paper tests both in short questions.
Letter writing
A formal letter has a set layout. The marks for layout are separate from the marks for what you say.
Literature
Literature questions ask what a text does and how it does it. Name the device, then show the line that carries it.
Religious and Moral Education
Religious and Moral Education past questions
The nature of God
The three main religious traditions in the BECE syllabus all teach that God is the creator, and they do not describe God in the same words.
Moral values
A moral value is a standard a community expects people to live by. RME asks you to name the value and show it in an action.
Religious festivals
A festival remembers an event or thanks God for a harvest. It also gathers a community.
Rites of passage
A rite of passage marks a change of status: birth into the family, marriage, or death.
Responsible living
Responsible living is doing your duty when nobody is forcing you. It covers your body, your neighbour and the place you share.
