Eight multiple choice and two written, marked as you go. Free, no account.

ObjectiveQ1 of 10BECE 2023

A product that can be made from the developed surface shown in the diagram below is a

Technical Drawing: Surface Development

Answer: A. milk tin.

The figure is a rectangle with equally spaced circumference divisions — the surface development of a cylinder. A milk tin is cylindrical, so its body can be rolled from this rectangle — answer A. A funnel is a cone (its development is a sector of a circle), while a match box and a chalk box are rectangular boxes whose developments are multi-panel cross-shaped nets, not a single rectangle with circumference divisions.

ObjectiveQ2 of 10BECE 2023

The part labelled J is made of

Materials: Metals

Answer: A. medium carbon steel.

The tool shown is a pickaxe, and the part labelled J is its head. The head strikes hard ground repeatedly, so it must be strong, tough and wear-resistant — properties of medium carbon steel. Odum is a hardwood used for the handle, not the head; aluminium is too soft for heavy impact; polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a plastic and would shatter.

ObjectiveQ3 of 10BECE 2023

Which of the following lines is used for dimensioning?

Technical Drawing: Lines and Lettering

Answer: D. A solid horizontal line with an arrowhead pointing left at its left end and an arrowhead pointing right at its right end.

A dimension line is a thin, solid line with arrowheads at both ends (line D) — the arrowheads show the exact extent being measured, and the measurement is written along the line. Line A (short uniform dashes) is a hidden-detail line, line B (alternating long and short dashes) is a centre line, and line C (thick solid) is a visible outline.

ObjectiveQ4 of 10BECE 2022

The object shown in the diagram is sketched in

Technical Drawing: Pictorial Drawing

Answer: D. two-point perspective.

In the sketch, the vertical edges of the object remain vertical, but the horizontal edges of BOTH side faces converge towards two separate points on the horizon line (shown by the dashed construction lines). Two sets of converging lines means two vanishing points — the drawing is in two-point perspective. In one-point perspective only one set of edges converges; in isometric and oblique drawings the receding edges stay parallel and never converge.

ObjectiveQ5 of 10BECE 2022

The marked rod shown beside the wall in the diagram is used for

Building Construction

Answer: D. measuring the courses of walls.

The tool is a gauge rod (storey rod). Its marks are spaced exactly one course apart, so the bricklayer holds it against the wall to check that every course of blocks rises to a uniform height — that is, it measures the courses of the wall. Checking straightness uses a straight edge, plumbing (checking verticality) uses a plumb bob, and levelling uses a spirit level.

ObjectiveQ6 of 10

Study the isometric drawing of the rectangular block below. How many faces of the block are visible in this type of drawing?

Technical Drawing: Pictorial Drawing

Answer: B. Three faces

In an isometric drawing, three faces of the object are visible: the top face, the front (left) face, and the side (right) face. Isometric drawings use 30-° angles from the horizontal to show three dimensions of an object in a single view, making them useful for visualising the shape of an object in technical drawing.

ObjectiveQ7 of 10

Study the circuit diagram below. What will happen if Bulb A blows (burns out) in this circuit?

Basic Electricity and Wiring

Answer: B. Bulb B will continue to light

In a parallel circuit, each bulb is on its own separate branch. If Bulb A blows, current can still flow through the branch containing Bulb B, so Bulb B will continue to light. This is a key advantage of parallel circuits over series circuits, and it is why household wiring uses parallel circuits.

ObjectiveQ8 of 10

Study the electrical circuit diagram below. What type of circuit is shown?

Basic Electricity and Wiring

Answer: D. Series circuit

The diagram shows a series circuit because all the components (battery, switch, Bulb 1, and Bulb 2) are connected in a single loop, one after the other. In a series circuit, current flows through each component in turn. If one bulb blows, the circuit breaks and all components stop working.

TheoryQ9 of 104 marksBECE 2023

State two analysis questions based on ergonomics.

Marking guide

Two analysis questions based on ergonomics:

  1. 1."Is the product comfortable and safe for the user to handle during prolonged use?" - This question examines whether the design considers the physical comfort of the user, including grip size, weight distribution, and prevention of strain or injury during extended use.
  1. 2."Does the product fit the body dimensions and capabilities of the intended user?" - This question assesses whether the design accommodates different body sizes (anthropometrics), physical abilities, and user limitations, ensuring the product is accessible and user-friendly for the target demographic.

Ergonomics is the study of designing products, systems, and environments to fit the people who use them, maximizing efficiency, comfort, and safety.

Marking guide: 2 marks for each correctly stated analysis question (maximum 2 questions). To earn the marks, each question must clearly relate to user comfort, safety, body fit or ease of use.

What is toothing in brickwork/blockwork construction?

Marking guide

Toothing is the method of ending an unfinished wall by leaving alternate courses of bricks or blocks projecting at the end (like teeth), so that when the wall is continued later the new work interlocks with the old work to form a strong bond.

Marking guide: 2 marks — 1 mark for describing the alternate projecting bricks/blocks at the end of the unfinished wall, 1 mark for the purpose (bonding the continuation strongly to the existing work).

Questions about BECE Career Technology on glearn

Are these real BECE Career Technology past questions?+

Some are from past papers and show their year. The rest are written in the style of the BECE, and every one comes with the correct answer and a worked explanation.

Can I get my written answers marked?+

Yes, on this page: type your answer and the coach marks it with AI and shows you where the marks are, a few a day with no account. Inside glearn, every answer you write.

Do I need an account for this page?+

No. You need one only to save your score and to keep going once the free marking for the day is used.

Will these exact questions come in my exam?+

Nobody can promise that. These test the same topics and the same kind of thinking the BECE does, which is what practice is for. There are thousands more across BECE and WASSCE inside glearn; this page shows a small sample.
