Religious and Moral Education is a BECE subject. It is not one of the four cores CSSPS adds. Those are English Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. A grade in this subject can still be one of the two other grades, when it is among your best. WAEC sets the examination. Glearn Technologies writes this guide. Glearn does not set the paper, does not place students, and glearn does not publish a pass rate.
How the papers are set
WAEC Ghana publishes the scheme in its BECE guidelines. Read that file for the current timing and the marks. This page does not copy them, because a later file can change them. The structure in the guidelines is two papers, taken together as one composite paper.
Paper 1 is the objective paper. The items are drawn from the whole syllabus, and you answer all of them. You choose one option for each item.
Paper 2 is the essay paper. It has two sections. Section A is one compulsory question. Section B offers a choice of questions, and you answer only the number the instructions ask for. Do not leave the compulsory question blank.
If the question paper in your hall is arranged differently, follow the question paper. This page describes the scheme in the guidelines. It does not replace that file.

Topic areas from the curriculum
The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment publishes the Religious and Moral Education curriculum for junior high school. It organises the work in six strands. Use them as a revision map. A strand is not a promise that every unit appears on your paper.
1. God, his creation and attributes
The nature of God in Christianity, Islam and African traditional religion, the creation stories, and care of the environment.
2. Religious practices
Worship, religious songs and recitations, rites of passage, and religious festivals. Name the tradition, and the custom a visitor would see.
3. The family and the community
Family systems, authority and obedience, and the way religion supports social cohesion. Roles belong to people, not to a slogan.
4. Religious leaders and personalities
Religious leaders, prophets and caliphs, and women in religion and leadership. Say who the person is, and what they are known for in that tradition.
5. Ethics and moral life
Manners and decency, substance abuse, moral teachings in the three main religions in Ghana, and reward, punishment and repentance.
6. Religion and economic life
Work, entrepreneurship and social security, and the use of money. A moral answer says who is helped and who is harmed.

How to answer the essay
Paper 2 is marked point by point. A value, a festival or a rite needs the tradition and a concrete act.
1. Do Section A first
It is compulsory. The choice in Section B comes after it. A blank compulsory question is a missing score.
2. Name the tradition
Christianity, Islam and African traditional religion are not one answer. Say which one the question asked about, and use its names for God, scripture and worship.
3. Show the act
If the question says explain, give the value or the rite in something a person does. Honesty is returning a purse you found. A slogan such as honesty is good does not show the value.
4. Match the festival and the rite
Give the people, what the festival remembers, and one custom. For a rite, say which change of status it marks. Do not describe one community as if every community did the same thing.
5. Do not invent a reference
A teaching in your own words can score. A chapter or a verse number you are not sure of can make a right point look wrong. Name the tradition and the teaching.
6. Stop at the number asked
Answer only the questions the instruction names. Extra essays spend the time the marked answers needed.
How to revise
Rotate the strands. A week of festivals with no moral life and no family leaves half the syllabus cold.
1. Stay on one strand
Finish the nature of God before you jump to festivals. Compare the three traditions on one attribute, then move on.
2. Answer before you read
Do the past question first. Then read why. A familiar story is not the same as a marked point.
3. Write one full explanation
Once a week, take a value or a rite and write the tradition, the meaning, and one act. Have it marked.
4. Keep a festival card
For each festival, write the people, the event it marks, and one custom. Homowo is Ga. Eid al Fitr marks the end of the fast. Eid al Adha is the sacrifice.
5. Fit the subject into the week
The revision plan orders the weeks across your subjects. When the official timetable is out, give the earliest paper more time. This page does not copy a date.
6. Have the answer marked
Kevin marks BECE Religious and Moral Education on glearn. Anna marks WASSCE answers. The first questions need no account.

Mistakes that cost marks
These are habits, not a secret list of questions. Fix the habit on the next paper you write.
1. One slogan for every religion
All religions believe in God hides the names, the scriptures and the attributes the question asked for. Name the tradition.
2. Swapping the two Eid festivals
Eid al Fitr marks the end of the Ramadan fast. Eid al Adha is the festival of sacrifice. They are not two names for one day.
3. Giving a festival to the wrong people
Homowo is Ga. Hogbetsotso is Anlo. Aboakyer is Effutu, at Winneba. Christmas marks the birth of Jesus. Easter marks the resurrection.
4. Mixing the rites
Outdooring welcomes a child. It is not a wedding. A marriage joins two families, not only two people. A funeral marks death. Say which rite you mean.
5. A list with no illustration
Naming honesty, respect and hard work scores the list only, when the question says explain. Each value needs an act.
6. Blaming the group
Peer pressure is not a defence. Responsibility includes choosing even when friends choose badly. Show that choice in a school situation.
