The exam Sierra Leone sits
The WASSCE is the West African Senior School Certificate Examination. WAEC sets it and marks it for five countries: Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia and The Gambia. In Sierra Leone the national office in Freetown administers entry and results. The papers are the Council's. GLearn does not conduct them.
How candidates enter
There are two ways in. A school candidate is entered by the school. A private candidate enters as an individual. The Freetown office publishes which entry is open and what it asks you to submit.
Use that notice. A month you remember from a previous year is not this year's timetable. GLearn does not register candidates and does not collect a WAEC fee.
The national office site is waecsierraleone.org.
Results
Check results with WAEC Sierra Leone when the office releases them. Have your index number and the access code the official checker asks for. GLearn never sees the index number and cannot show a result. A slip on a checker is not the certificate. The Council issues the certificate later.
Grades
WAEC grades each WASSCE paper from A1 to F9. A1 is Excellent and covers 75 to 100. C6, from 50 to 54, is a credit. D7 and E8 are passes. F9, below 40, is a fail. The letters are the same in every WAEC country.
A college or an employer in Sierra Leone decides which grades it accepts. GLearn does not publish a cut off for any institution. The grade calculator maps a percentage onto A1 to F9 and can add a Ghana aggregate, where A1 counts as 1. Use it to read the letters. It is not an admission score for Sierra Leone. How Kevin and Anna mark the work
Revision on GLearn is a question, a mark, and the reason. Kevin and Anna are the coaches. Anna is the one WASSCE practice opens with, and Kevin explains an answer the same way when you revise with him. Written answers are marked against the mark scheme, including what was missing. No account for the first questions. Try WASSCE practice free.
WASSCE subjects on GLearn
These are the WASSCE subjects you can open on GLearn. The national office decides which subjects you enter, and the names on your entry form are the ones that count. Core Mathematics and Integrated Science use the names on the Ghana papers. The questions are WASSCE questions, and a written answer is marked against the mark scheme.
