The senior exam in The Gambia
The Gambia is one of the five WAEC member countries, with Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Liberia. The WASSCE, the West African Senior School Certificate Examination, is the senior exam. WAEC sets it and marks it. The national office in Banjul handles entry and results for candidates in The Gambia.
The junior certificate in The Gambia is the GABECE. This page is about the WASSCE only. GLearn does not conduct either exam.
School candidates and private candidates
A school candidate is entered by the school. A private candidate enters as an individual. The Banjul office announces when each entry is open, and that announcement is the instruction to follow, including any fee the Council is charging.
GLearn does not register candidates, does not issue an index number, and does not collect a WAEC fee. GLearn will not ask you for a WAEC PIN.
Results
When results are out, check them with the WAEC national office in Banjul, on the channel that office names. Have your index number and the access code that channel asks for. GLearn does not check, store, or release the result. A result on a checker is not the certificate.
Grades
WAEC grades each WASSCE paper from A1 to F9. A1 is Excellent and covers 75 to 100. C6, from 50 to 54, is a credit. D7 and E8 are passes. F9, below 40, is a fail. The letters are the same in every WAEC country.
A university in The Gambia decides which grades it accepts. GLearn does not publish a cut off. The grade calculator maps a percentage to A1 to F9 and can add a Ghana aggregate, where A1 counts as 1. That total is a Ghana reading. It is not an admission score in The Gambia. Open the WASSCE grade calculator.
Kevin and Anna
Use the time before the paper to revise. On GLearn, Kevin and Anna mark a written answer against the mark scheme and explain the points you missed. Anna is the coach WASSCE practice starts with. You can also revise with Kevin. No account for the first questions. Try WASSCE practice free.
WASSCE subjects on GLearn
These are the WASSCE subjects you can open on GLearn. The national office decides which subjects you enter, and the names on your entry form are the ones that count. Core Mathematics and Integrated Science use the names on the Ghana papers. The questions are WASSCE questions, and a written answer is marked against the mark scheme.
