WASSCE Christian Religious Studies past questions and answers

Eight multiple choice and two written, marked as you go. Free, no account.

ObjectiveQ1 of 10

In the Old Testament, a covenant is best described as which of the following?

The covenant

Answer: B. An agreement in which God promises and the people have a part to keep

A covenant is an agreement. God makes a promise, and the people have a part to keep. Abraham is promised descendants. At Sinai the people are given the law. A wish is not binding. Rules with no promise leave out one side. A battle prediction is not what the word means in these stories.

ObjectiveQ2 of 10

The Ten Commandments mainly cover which two areas?

The covenant

Answer: B. Duty to God, and duty to other people

The commandments given through Moses cover worship of God and how people treat one another. Murder, theft and false witness sit with the neighbour. They are not a manual for one trade, a tribal list, or a building plan. Naming only one of the two areas misses half of the law.

ObjectiveQ3 of 10

How is a prophet different from a person who only predicts the future?

The prophets

Answer: B. A prophet speaks for God and calls people back to the covenant

A prophet is a spokesperson for God. The message calls people back to worship and to justice. A prediction can be part of that message. It is not the whole work. A fortune teller has no covenant demand. The prophet is not the king, though a prophet may confront one. Weather is not the subject.

ObjectiveQ4 of 10

Amos is best known in this syllabus for speaking against which evil?

The prophets

Answer: A. The crushing of the poor, and worship that ignored injustice

Amos speaks against people who are at ease while the poor are crushed, and against worship that ignores that injustice. He asks for justice. The Gospels and Paul belong to the New Testament, centuries after Amos. Schools are not his subject. The name Amos, with no demand, does not answer the question.

ObjectiveQ5 of 10

Which list names the four Gospels?

The life of Jesus

Answer: A. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John

The four Gospels are Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Matthew, Mark and Luke tell many of the same events. John often goes more deeply into who Jesus is. Peter and Paul are apostles, not Gospel titles. Genesis and Exodus are Old Testament books. Acts and Romans come after the Gospels. Amos and Isaiah are prophets.

ObjectiveQ6 of 10

What is a parable?

The life of Jesus

Answer: B. A story Jesus tells in order to teach a point

A parable is a story with a point, such as the kingdom of God, forgiveness, or how a neighbour should be treated. The story alone is not the whole answer when the question asks what it teaches. It is not a Roman law, not the title of a Gospel, and not the commandments given to Moses.

ObjectiveQ7 of 10

In Acts, what happens to the disciples at Pentecost?

The early church

Answer: B. The Holy Spirit comes on them, and they speak about Jesus

Acts says the Holy Spirit came on the disciples. They spoke about Jesus to the crowd in Jerusalem, and Peter preached. People were baptised and joined the community. Pentecost is not silence. Paul did not write the Gospels, and he is not the preacher in that chapter. The point is the Spirit and the message.

ObjectiveQ8 of 10

James says faith without action is dead. What does that mean?

Christian living

Answer: B. A belief that never changes what a person does is empty

James wants faith to be visible in care for other people. The action does not replace the faith. It shows the faith is alive. Saying that only money matters, or that people should be avoided, contradicts the teaching. A slogan with no example is not yet this answer.
