WASSCE Ghanaian Language past questions and answers

Eight multiple choice and two written, marked as you go. Free, no account.

ObjectiveQ1 of 10

Where should a comprehension answer come from?

Comprehension

Answer: B. The passage on the paper

The fact has to be in the passage. A similar story can add people and reasons that are not there. A proverb belongs to literature. An English grammar rule does not answer a reading question. Write the fact the question asked for, in the language of your entry unless English was requested.

ObjectiveQ2 of 10

Which pair of papers is the same entry?

Composition

Answer: D. None of these pairs

Asante Twi and Akuapem Twi are separate entries. Ewe is not Ga. Ga is not Dangme. Fante is not Twi. You write in the language on your entry and you do not switch. None of these pairs is one paper. Akan is the family name for the Twi and Fante entries, not a single answer booklet.

ObjectiveQ3 of 10

A composition question on this paper is answered in which language?

Composition

Answer: B. The language on your entry

The composition tests the language of the entry. English is for the side of a translation that asks for English. Ewe, Ga, Asante Twi, Akuapem Twi, Fante and the other entries are not substitutes. A clear story in the wrong language has missed the paper.

ObjectiveQ4 of 10

What must a translation keep?

Translation

Answer: B. The people, the action, and the time or place that was given

Keep who acted, what they did, and the time or place in the source. Do not add a reason. Do not drop a person. Copying English spelling into Twi, Ewe or Ga is not a translation. Read the direction: into your language, or into English, as the question says.

ObjectiveQ5 of 10

An Ewe candidate is told to translate into Ewe, and writes Twi. What is wrong?

Translation

Answer: B. The answer is in a different language from the entry

The entry is Ewe. Twi is a different language and a different paper. A close meaning in the wrong language has not done the task. English is used only when the question asks for English. Do not treat Akan, Ewe and Ga as one answer.

ObjectiveQ6 of 10

A lexis and structure item is answered by which of these?

Grammar

Answer: B. The form that fits the sentence in the language of the entry

The item asks for the word or the form that fits that sentence in your language. An English term alone does not show the form. A proverb is literature. A festival is a custom. Asante Twi, Akuapem Twi and Fante do not share every form, so stay in the variety on your entry.

ObjectiveQ7 of 10

A full answer about a proverb includes which pair?

Literature and customs

Answer: B. The saying and the meaning

The saying shows you know the proverb. The meaning, or a situation where it fits, is the rest of the mark. A folktale title is a different question. A list of festivals does not explain a saying. Write this in the language of your entry when the question is in that language.

ObjectiveQ8 of 10

Homowo is a festival of which people?

Literature and customs

Answer: B. The Ga

Homowo is a Ga festival. It is not an Ewe custom and it is not an Akan custom. A custom answer names the people. Communities do not share every rite. If you are not sure which people practise a festival, leave it out rather than give it to the wrong community.
